“Eating and Talking in the Square” is born to facilitate the dialogue and increase citizens’ awareness on the future of food systems, with particular attention to metropoles, more and more crowded, energy intensive, which want to become smart cities.
The first appointment took place in Turin, June 2nd 2013 , on Vittorio Veneto square, during the Italian Republic Day, with a series of events on food and against waste:
- A free lunch “before wasting” has been served to 3000 people, made from unsold food, normally intended to be discarded.
- An open market “Campagna Amica” with several local farmers,
- a talk show performed with several personnalities including the italian minister of environment Andrea Orlando, Giancarlo Caselli and don Luigi Ciotti, both engaged against mafia, Tiziano Treu, Gustavo Zagrebelsky, the professor Andrea Segré, James Lomax for UMEP and FAO Sustainable Production, the farmer and philosopher Pierre Rahbi, the actor Bill Pullman, the municipality of Turin assessor Enzo Lavolta, Gaetano Capizzi, director of Cinemambiente, to speak about the Italian constitution and in particular of the issues relative to human labour and farming.
